
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born on the 22nd of March 1976) is an American actress. The recipient of various accolades such as an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, the Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she has consistently ranked as one of the highest-paid actors in the world. Time magazine listed her as one of the top 100 influential people in the world in 2015 and 2006. Forbes also named her as one of the 100 most powerful Women of the World in the year 2019. Forbes has named her the world's richest actress in 2021. Her net worth is estimated to be $400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in the year 1991 as she was a teenager. In 1999, she was acting as a supporting actor in Cruel Intentions as well as in the role of Tracy Flick in Election. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001) and its 2003 sequel received her acclaim. She also starred in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) which was a romantic comedy. She was critically acclaimed and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress in the role of June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a downturn in her career, with her only box-office success was the romantic drama Water for Elephants (2011), Witherspoon made a comeback in the form of a producer and star as Cheryl Strayed in the drama Wild (2014) in which she was nominated again for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Since then, she's been mostly involved in TV productions and has appeared in several female-led literary adaptations. They include Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show as the Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first one. She also wrote and directed the movies Gone Girl (2014), and Where the Crawdads Sing (222). She is a member of the board of directors for the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and was named Global Ambassador for Avon Products in 2007, acting as the honorary chair of the foundation.
